Which Course?
The course you choose depends on both your boating and navigation experience and what your future aspirations are. A brief summary of each course follows:
RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship
If you’re new to boating then this is the best course to do as it assumes no knowledge or practical experience. It is ideal for people who wish to be useful crew members whether sailing, motor-boating or sea angling. This course can now be completed either online or in a classroom.
RYA Day Skipper Theory
If you have some practical experience and are considering owning your own boat or wish to charter a boat but have little or no navigation experience then the Day Skipper course would probably suit your needs.
RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Theory
This is the more advanced course if you have practical and navigation experience and wish to go further afield, progress onto the Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster Offshore practical certificates or just to improve your navigation and seamanship skills.
The RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Theory Course covers celestial navigation, ocean meteorology, passage planning etc. It is is an advanced course designed for those who wish to go blue water sailing. It requires knowledge equivalent to the RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Theory.
RYA VHF Radio Course (VHF DSC Short Range Certificate)
It is a legal requirement that to use a VHF set you must hold or be under supervision of someone holding a valid VHF licence. It is therefore essential that you complete this course if you own your own boat and have a VHF set fitted or intend to charter a boat.
Bespoke Course
If you require complete flexibility in the timing of completing the course, one–to-one tuition, at your own venue or small group tuition either for any of the above courses or to cover specific areas such as pilotage or passage planning then we can usually cater for your needs.
